Bride Shibani Sanghavi skipped traditional colors when she planned looks for the various wedding functions. See how she rocked elegant pastel ensembles packed with dramatic details and eye-catching embellishments
For many brides, picking a dream wedding lehenga in red or maroon is a safe and expected choice. Not so for Shibani Sanghavi, daughter of Pune-based media honcho Sabina and Anil Sanghvi’s who wed Jay Bhagat, son of leading jeweler Viren Bhagat. Shibani picked ensembles featuring a palette of pastel colors, from pink to grey. See how she planned every look to perfection!
Gorgeous in Grey
This striking ensemble by designer Gaurav Gupta was a glamorous showstopper with its dramatic boat neck, dull silver embellishments used as trails across the top half of the gown, and magnificent ruffled skirt that appeared like waves caught in motion. Shibani gave most accessories a miss when she wore this lustrous grey gown, except for pretty pink and white diamond stud earrings. She wore her hair in a loose ponytail and kept the focus entirely on the standout creation.
Festive in Florals
Shibani eschewed vibrant hues that are typically popular for mehendi functions with a pastel ensemble that is perfect for outdoor, daytime functions. It included a short-sleeved blouse with white and lavender floral motifs, and a light pink skirt. She did not wear any ornate jewelry with this outfit, preferring instead to just don a pair of round earrings with a floral design that matched her blouse perfectly. Her shiny hair which was left loose for this look added to the girlish yet elegant vibe of this outfit.
Splendid in Silver
When she made a grand entry at her sangeet, guests at the Umaid Bhawan Palace were left awestruck as Shibani had her ‘Perfect Princess’ moment in a pastel grey Tarun Tahiliani lehenga that sparked with shiny silvery embellishments. From the little beads hanging along the edge of the bodice to the white floral motifs on the skirt, every little detail spelled exquisite elegance. Shibani wore a matching silver choker, a ring, and bracelets with this outfit. Her hair was styled in loose waves, and her makeup added color to her look with bright pink lips.
Cool & Colorful
‘Twinning’ was in play when Shibani and husband Jay donned matching outfits by designer Rahul Misra’s Parizaad collection for an outdoor function. Quirky and colorful, the outfits featured kaleidoscopic motifs in bright threads and patches inspired by Islamic architecture. Shibani wore a magnificent choker with white pearls for this look and kept her hair open. Jay’s jacket went from vibrant to white in a shaded manner which made for a striking and unconventional look.
Pretty in Pink
No reds for this pastels-loving bride! Shibani opted for a powder pink lehenga for the wedding. The skirt featured ornate floral motifs embroidered on it in a darker pink, and gold embellishments which added a touch of glitter. The beautiful dupatta was draped expertly and made for a graceful touch. Shibani wore matching bangles, a statement neckpiece and a dainty ‘maang tikka’ (forehead ornament). Jay looked every inch a dapper groom in his grey sherwani with white buttons and white trousers.

Actor Mohit Marwah is marrying his long-time girlfriend Antara Motiwala in the peaceful Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). The venue for the three-day wedding is Waldorf Astoria, and the high-profile celebrations are being planned by UAE/ Mumbai-based Milestones to Memories (MtoM).
Mohit Marwah and Antara Motiwala
Mohit Marwah is the son of Reena and Sandeep Marwah from New Delhi. Reena Marwah is the only sister of Bollywood actors Anil and Sanjay Kapoor, and producer Boney Kapoor – all of whom will be there at the celebrations. All eyes will also be on the groom’s cousin sister and soon-to-be bride Sonam Kapoor whose wedding is expected to take place at a secret destination in end-March or April (earlier the buzz was that it would be hosted in Jodhpur; now there are whispers that it may be held in New Delhi or at a secret destination in Asia or Europe).
Antara, a Bollywood stylist by profession, is the daughter of Bhavana Motiwala who is the elder sister of Tina Ambani. So this will be a grand celebration with Bollywood A-listers and business biggies including Karan Johar and Varun Dhawan alongside Anil and Tina Ambani. There are rumours that the Bachchans are expected to attend too.
The Marwah-Motiwala wedding will commence with a welcome dinner on February 18th. The afternoon mehendi will be held the following day on the hotel’s Cabana Lawns, followed by an evening sangeet at the Al Fayrouz Beach Front. The wedding ceremony will take place on February 20th, followed by the finale cocktails and dinner at the Al Fayrouz Poolside. The design & decor production for all the events is by Fete Events Dubai.

The thought of exchanging your vows in a unique location is something most couples planning their wedding will discuss. As the popularity of destination weddings goes up, the quest for destinations that are out of the ordinary can seem more difficult.
Unless you’re Shankar Ganesh, co-founder, and director of WeddingSutra FavoriteAhan Destination Management. With over 17 years of experience in event management, he knows just what you need to make your big day memorable. “You are going to have a wedding only once so it is important to give yourself and your guests an experience that will be cherished for a lifetime. This really is the time to think out of the box and bring to the table something truly unique.”
If his words resonate with your wishes, here are his top wedding destination recommendations guaranteed to make your wedding a success!
Bhutan
Still a mystery to so many, the mists over lush greenery and breathtaking vistas that encompass gorgeous mountains makes Bhutan one of the most romantic places you will see.
Thimphu and Paro in Bhutan top Ganesh’s list of locations to tie the knot at; both lie in the hills and are perfect for those fascinated by themes that are designed around water elements. “In India, most people think of water landscapes as seashores but how beautiful would a mandap by Paro Chhu be,” he says, “This was what comes to my mind when I speak of water. It redefines the traditional mindset about nature.”
He highlights the advantage of not having to pay a high entry price into the country as Indian passport holders and mentions some great hotels such as Le Méridien Paro, Riverfront in Paro and Taj Tashi and Le Méridien Thimphu in Thimphu, equipped to host an Indian wedding or nuptials. All in all, Bhutan is a great opportunity for the couple and their guests to explore a clean and beautiful country.
Kashmir
The magic of a frozen wonderland is unsurpassed. Vast white spaces, crystalline trees, the silence and sparkle of snow covered surroundings – and these are all available in the first few months of the year, the traditional Indian wedding season.
Ganesh picks Gulmarg and Srinagar as perfect winter wedding spots, “It’s a white wedding in the literal sense! Srinagar and Gulmarg are wonderful in January and February, a refreshing change from the usual wedding landscapes.”
What’s even better is that the locations are well versed with all traditions and rituals and all hotels are adequately heated, he says, “No one has to worry about the cold when they are indoors.”
Vivanta by Taj– Dal View Srinagar, The Lalit Grand Palace Srinagar and Heevan Resorts in Srinagar and The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa in Gulmarg are his properties of choice at these destinations.
Andamans
For those looking for a classic wedding by the beach, Ganesh recommends the Andamans for its untouched beauty. “No destination by the sea in mainland India comes close to the gorgeous waterfronts of the Andamans. You can see the expansive sea stretch out in front of you, waters so clear that you can see two feet into the ocean without any difficulty,” he explains.
While the location is head and shoulders above Goa, one of the most sought-after beach wedding locales in India, he says the Andamans is better than Thailand as well, “To reach a place like Koh Samui or Hua Hin, you have to travel for about nine hours whereas you can reach Port Blair in 4-5hr from Mumbai. It even has direct flights from a few other places in the country. Not only is getting here faster but also cheaper.” Ganesh suggests hosts consider arranging for accommodation at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Andamans at Havelock and taking their guests to Port Blair for the functions via chartered yacht due to its close proximity of about 500 meters.
Seychelles
The archipelago of Seychelles is a place bestowed with the beauty of nature. Besides its pristine beauty and warm hospitality, its connectivity from India despite being an exotic location makes it a great option for those who wish to host a wedding overseas. The country sees a good influx of tourists throughout the year making the natives open to outsiders. However, still unexplored as a wedding destination, it is sure to bring uniqueness to your nuptials. This balance makes Seychelles an excellent location to host your functions. “People often choose Bali over Seychelles since the former turns out to be cheaper. However, if budget is not a constraint, this is a place that I would definitely recommend,” says Ganesh.

Mauritius
Looking for a wedding spot on one of the world’s most exotic islands? Mauritius is your answer. A year-round tropical paradise, Mauritius is a place where couples can get married without having to check the calendar before making the bookings. The country boasts beautiful views that are second to none. The combination of clear turquoise waters and beaches of fine sand make this place a good destination for a seaside wedding. There are many sites of varying sizes scattered throughout this African paradise, one of which being Shangri-La’s Le Touressrok Resort & Spa, that are great spots for couples to exchange vows. What makes this place even better is the warmth with which the locals greet tourists. Ganesh says, “Mauritius is small and the people here are very friendly. It is the kind of place where people in the streets will stop, take a few minutes out to guide you when you need. Such things add to the experience that your guests have especially when they go out exploring the locales, thus making your wedding a truly memorable one.”
Turkey
Turkey is rich in history and architecture and brings the exoticism of the East and the romanticism of the West to your wedding. The country has played host to some very high profile Indian weddings, and its popularity continues to be on the rise. “Turkey is a great place for those looking for a destination that truly has something special to offer. If it’s a big city wedding that you want, Istanbul is what you should be looking at. For those who prefer a countryside wedding at a location that has some historic appeal, the Bosphorus is a great option. Another reason that makes this country a location to keep an eye out for is the easy approval of visas,” Ganesh says.

As the numbers of these NRI wedding celebrations goes up, the quest for orchestrating these ambitious, impressive events that are out of the ordinary can seem more challenging. Unless you are Rani and Harry Moriani, founders of Revel Events, one of our WeddingSutra Favorites. With their years of experience in event management, they know exactly what it takes to make your big day memorable.
Here they tell us about NRI weddings and share some expert advice guaranteed to make your celebration a grand success!
How are NRI weddings different from the traditional celebrations one sees or experiences in India?
“You’d be surprised to know that actually, NRI weddings aren’t that different from weddings in India. If anything, weddings abroad can be even more traditional because this is how we keep customs and culture alive via these rituals and ceremonies. Whether it’s the auspicious mahurat, the prayer ceremonies or anything in between, there is a tradition of adhering to the family’s rituals whether or not we understand the significance behind them.
Like the adage goes, you can take an Indian out of India, but can’t take India out of the Indian!”
What factors do you keep in mind when recommending locations for NRI weddings?
“First consider the size of the wedding. If it is a small wedding, then a huge property will not give you the intimacy you’re obviously looking for. The second factor is convenience and connectivity from the airport. I have seen some gorgeous properties that, on their own, would be ideal for an Indian wedding but the route makes the journey too long. These locations are not practical and shouldn’t be chosen unless there are genuinely no other options available. Finally and most importantly, does it all fit in their budget?”
What are the challenges in planning NRI weddings?
“This applies to weddings in general – not just NRI weddings; Indian weddings typically have to take into account the wishes of not just the couple but also their immediate families. Everyone wants to be a part of their family wedding and have a say for all matters. Getting everyone to like or agree on the same thing is a task sometimes. As a planner, it requires great skills to keep the balance among all parties concerned.”
How do you manage to communicate with couples based in different time zones?
“Thanks to Whatsapp groups now, it’s actually easier to be in touch. For night owls like us, it’s easier to be up for people in different time zones and respond according to their convenience.”
The millennial generation is known to be more discerning. Can you tell us from your experience the major difference in approaches you have noticed in this generation with NRI couples compared to the last?
“Earlier, couples would leave it to your expertise to guide them through the whole process, leaving it to you to manage it all. We had a bride who left all the decor details, everything to us and said, “Surprise me”! It was amazing and yet scary! Imagine hoping to match up to the expectations. But needless to say, they were more than amazed at the results.
Nowadays, couples are more on the ball and know exactly what they want and how they want it. They are hands on and involved in every aspect, which is good in a way, yet it’s not worth the extra stress they take on.
A planner’s job is to take your stress away, not only during the functions but also during the planning process.”
Next NRI wedding you are planning and tell us about the destination?
“We are now working on a wedding In June at Angsana Laguna Phuket. It’s a traditional Sindhi wedding with the groom originating from Spain and the bride from Malaysia.”

A vibrant culture, historical venues and legendary hospitality makes Rajasthan one of the most sought after destinations for a grand wedding. Bride Sonam wanted to infuse her wedding to Mihir with the same timeless and regal essence that the desert state exudes, so she hired WeddingSutra Favorite – Elite Wedding Planner to conceptualize and execute her wedding celebrations held at Fairmont Jaipur. She shares, “The Elite Wedding Planner team was impeccable in their approach to everything – from designing the decor to making sure that even the smallest details were taken care of.”
The Elite Wedding Planner team took a year and a half to conceptualize Mihir and Sonam’s wedding which had a minimalistic and ethereal theme. Ruchita Parelkar of Elite Wedding Planner explains, “We wanted elements that were interesting and interactive, and the overall vibe of the functions had to be traditional yet modern and meaningful.”
Attended by 450 guests from around the world, the team had to ensure that all the details of the cuisine, decor, music, and entertainment were carefully managed to give the guests a truly memorable time.
The chic environs of, Fairmont Jaipur got a fairytale makeover with the splendid decor. Sonam says, “In spite of having traveled all across the globe, the royal elegance and grandeur of Fairmont Jaipur had me besotted from the very beginning, and I felt that it was a place I would love to get married in some day.” When she revisited the hotel with her fiance Mihir, she knew it was the right decision as the property’s well-appointed rooms, majestic aura, and exclusive vibe won both of them over. The hotel was booked for the three-day affair starting with the sangeet on the first day, the wedding on the second day and the reception on the third day.
Wedding Functions
Sangeet
Before the sangeet commenced, the guests met up on the lawn, enjoyed sparkling champagne and got to know each other. Folk artists and performers like ‘kacchi ghodi,’ ‘ghoomar’ dancers, puppeteers, and ‘magada’ players greeted the gathering with their riveting performances that was like a cultural showcase for the beautiful state’s history and local arts.
Inside the ballroom, the decor had a traditional Rajasthani feel that complemented the ballroom. Rich colors such as maroon, royal blue, and gold were used outdoors while a cool combination of white and blue decked the interior of the venue. A grand stage with Rajasthani mirror work was the highlight of the setup and took two months of painstaking work by local artisans. Siddharth Mahadevan, Nakash Aziz, Antara Mitra, and Nikita Gandhi entertained guests as they danced the night away.
Wedding
The wedding was a showcase of Mughal opulence. “Fairmont Jaipur has an existing beautiful white Moghul inspired structure on their lawn. We wanted the wedding mandap to appear as if it was a part of this existing structure. The Elite Wedding Planner team did that for us, and we were delighted with the results. Our guests couldn’t make out that the mandap was not a part of the edifice!” recalls Sonam.
Their ceremony was conducted by Raju Maharaj who patiently explained the significance of each ritual to the guests. Bhawna Gada and a group from Mumbai performed the ‘lagna geet’, and a Sufi musical group from Jaipur mesmerized everyone at the wedding too.
Reception
The ‘Victorian Royal’ themed reception started as a formal event which eventually led to an informal after party where the couple’s family and friends came together smiling, dancing and making memories. The function included a cake-cutting ceremony and champagne which was served in customized glasses.
Each table featured abundant flowers and candles, and fresh blooms were suspended from the ceiling. There was a mirror dance floor and an ice bar which looked surreal when lit up. As the duo shared their first dance on their favorite song ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran, a glitter cannon added that glamorous and fun touch to the moments.
